About the Saudi Accreditation Center (SAAC)
In 1425H (2004), the National Accreditation Committee was established to regulate the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies in the Kingdom. As part of efforts to strengthen the quality infrastructure, Council of Ministers Resolution No. (600), dated 22 Shawwal 1440H (corresponding to 25 June 2019), was issued to transform the Committee into an independent entity under the name (Saudi Accreditation Center). SAAC has legal personality and enjoys financial and administrative independence, and is organizationally linked to His Excellency the Minister of Commerce.
The Saudi Accreditation Center is the national authority mandated to provide accreditation services to conformity assessment bodies in the Kingdom, ensuring their competence and the reliability of their outputs in accordance with recognized international standards. The Center’s scope of work includes the accreditation of testing laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, and halal certification bodies, thereby contributing to strengthening the quality infrastructure and enhancing confidence in products and services.
SAAC works to develop the national accreditation system through the implementation of international best practices, the development of national technical capabilities, the empowerment of specialized competencies, and the utilization of assessors’ and experts’ expertise to ensure the accuracy and reliability of assessment processes. It also seeks to strengthen cooperation and partnerships with relevant regional and international organizations and bodies, supporting mutual recognition of accreditation certificates and reinforcing the Kingdom’s presence and standing within the international accreditation system.
